In 2023, we had the privilege of connecting with Brian Wheeler, owner of Mr. Mudd, at the World of Concrete event in Las Vegas. When Brian discovered Vuba Stone at WOC, he was excited to find a resurfacing product that checked all the boxes he was looking for: UV stability, permeability, and a wide array of beautiful color choices. He had been actively searching for a solution like ours for some time and quickly recognized the potential of adding our exceptional products to his services.
Brian’s enthusiasm for Vuba Stone has translated into impressive success. After attending his first Vuba Stone training in California, he became a Vuba Installer in Idaho and achieved $2 million in project sales within just six months, with sales projected to reach $4 million in 2024. Working alongside Brian has been inspiring, as we’ve seen him elevate his business by incorporating Vuba Stone surfacing. This partnership highlights the impact our products can have for contractors eager to innovate and bring added value to their clients.
This year in June we traveled to Boise, Idaho, to partner with Brian in hosting a training course for 20 new installers. During this comprehensive two-day event, we also visited three of Brian’s early Vuba Stone projects, witnessing firsthand the high-quality work resulting from his commitment to our training standards and his expertise in the field. It was impressive to see the quality of these installations and just how well they have held up in the harsh climate in Idaho. We faced some initial skeptisism from customers who questioned how our product would perform in North America’s challenging climate, particularly with high UV exposure and freeze- thaw cycles. These projects are a great example as to how well Vuba Stone is engineered to withstand these conditions.

Breaking the stigma around stone systems in the USA - Epoxy VS Vuba Stone!
When we introduced Vuba Stone to North America, we initially encountered some doubts, as it was compared to epoxy and there were concerns about its suitability for the climate. This motivated us to work even harder to demonstrate the unique advantages of our system over epoxy.
Unlike traditional systems that have struggled with North America’s diverse climates, Vuba Stone was engineered to handle these challenges. Our product is UV-stable, so it retains its color and appearance long after installation, resisting the yellowing that can affect other systems. Designed for flexibility, Vuba Stone has a 70% elongation to break, which allows it to move with the sub-base, significantly reducing the risk of cracking over time. Additionally, Vuba Stone is fully permeable and can withstand humidity levels up to 95%, making it suitable for a wide range of environmental conditions.
Comparing Vuba Stone 1 year apart
We visited Mr. Mudd’s 900 sq. ft. driveway project and were particularly impressed by its durability through Idaho’s varied seasons. This installation has withstood summer temperatures reaching the 90s and low 100s, snowy winters, and significant rainfall during fall and spring. On the left, you can see the project as it was completed in June 2023, while the right shows the Vuba team’s revisit. This project highlights the resilience of Vuba Stone in North America’s climates, demonstrating its resistance to UV exposure, freeze- thaw cycles, and cracking—without any aggregate popping out. It stands as a testament to Vuba Stone’s long-lasting performance, even in extreme weather conditions.
Materials used and base preparation
For this project, Mr. Mudd installed Vuba Stone over an existing concrete base. They began by stabilizing and filling any voids with PolyLevel foam and grinding down the transitions at the garage floor and sidewalk. Next, they pressure-washed the surface, filled all joints and cracks with silicone-based concrete caulking, and applied Vuba’s Surface Rebar Mesh to prevent future cracking. Once the base was fully prepared, they installed Vuba Stone in the color Bastille.
Mr Mudd’s experience working with Vuba Stone over the past 2 years
“Working with the team at Vuba has been a fantastic experience. They truly listen to their customers and ensure we have all the resources needed to succeed. I’ve been in business for 21 years and have tried every resurfacing product on the market. But with the freeze thaw cycles in my area, nothing held up. Traditional epoxy overlays would become brittle and fall apart under the sun, while cement-based products absorbed water, froze, and then delaminated.
I had all but given up on resurfacing products—until I discovered Vuba. The difference with Vuba is that it’s applied much thicker, so it almost works like an exoskeleton over the top of concrete, asphalt or VubaMac. Plus, as a urethane resin with UV stabilizers, it resists sun damage and remains flexible, making it highly durable.”
Here are additional projects completed by Mr Mudd this year!
We’re thrilled to partner with Mr. Mudd and to see Vuba Stone performing so well a year after installation. These projects have withstood all four seasons in North America’s challenging climate, demonstrating the system’s durability and resilience. The success of Mr. Mudd’s installations reaffirms Vuba Stone’s suitability for North American conditions, from intense summer heat to freezing winters with freeze thaw cycles. We’re excited about Vuba’s future in North America and look forward to continuing our work in transforming outdoor spaces with lasting, high-quality surfacing solutions.
